ATV Offroad Fury 3 is back with its’ latest installment, ATV Offroad Fury 3. The first difference that will be noticed in the newest installment are the graphics. They are crisp and clean, pushing the PS2 to the max. The ATV’s and riders are so realistic it seems as if you are watching a race, and not controlling one. The environments you race in are just as crisp as the riders and ATV’s and really makes it seem like you are watching a race. The development team really pushed themselves in that area, and it easily shows.
Another great improvement is how many different tracks there are this time around. There are more than 30 unique free-roaming game environments, along with over 40 different tracks. The first thing that ATV riders will notice is the realistic feel to the crashes. When you slam a rider and his 4-wheeler into the wall, the rider will flip and fall exactly like a rider would in real life. Thus adding yet another realistic feel to the game.
The two greatest improvements in this game are the controlling and customizable features. You are flying through a track at 80 M.P.H. when you notice a huge turn only meters away. The competition is so close and tight that you can’t slowdown and take it lightly. So your only other choice is to power slide and hope for the best. You get up to the turn and press the R1 button and slam the left analog stick to the right as you begin to slide to the side, and your back side begins to slide to the front of you. But then you let go of the R1 button and slam your thumb down on the X button and straighten out your rider. With the left analog stick once more. As you blow through the checkered flag, winning the race. That is the type of control and game play that you can look forward to in this game.
As stated earlier the second greatest installment in this game is how much you can customize your gear and ATV. But unlike the first game you must win money for all of your purchases. Compared to when you just had to win certain races to unlock certain bikes. There are many improvements to the bike that go as far as the tires. This part is probably one of the most addicting parts, due to how much you can do.
There are four different selections you will make to determine how you shall race. The choices are Single Player: Single Events, Championship, and Waypoint. Then once you choose will style of race you wish to partake in you will then be guided to a few more submenus for you to choose from. And once you finally have chosen everything you want you off to the track for the races.
Another great addition in this game is the variety of online mini games that they are to choose from. They include but are not limited to: soccer, hockey, and king of the Hill. One key difference from the first to the third is the persons view. Before you had the third person, but in this one your view is from directly behind the rider and his ATV. With all of these great features it hard to see what could be wrong with this newest installment, but unfortunately there is.
The biggest problem I had with this game was the A.I. Due to the fact that it is not that challenging at all after you learn how to control your bike. And even in the beginning it is not that difficult, which could lead you to being bored quite fast. By now you have all probably come to expect great music in these games that mesh well with it. Well this version is no different. The rock music in here varies from well known bands such as Slipknot, to just up and coming bands such as Red Tape. This adds a nice gaming experience from race to race.
All in all this game provides a great time for all gamers. With great new graphics and rocking music, along with extremely improved controlling. Along with so much that you can customize on your rider and this ATV and how many tracks you have to race on here, you can become lost in hours of enjoyment. With all of these plusses this game should receive close to a perfect score. Unfortunately there are some negatives that drag the scoring down as long as the fun factor. The biggest problem I had was the A.I. difficulty. It just is way to easy and due to it, it can make this game quite boring even with as much as you can do. So I give ATV Offroad Fury 3 for the Playstation2 an 8.5 out of 10.
Final Score - 8.5
